Just a short drive over the Bay Bridge, East Bay is full of interesting things to see and do. Berkley is home to the first University of California and the site for many political demonstrations in the 1960s. Now you can view the University's Botanical Garden, explore hands-on exhibits at the Lawrence Hall of Science; explore human culture at the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology or Art at the Berkley Art Museum. If you still long for the 1960s you can walk down Telegraph Avenue which has a mix of hippie inspired shops and restaurants.
